          PhD thesis

“Experimental substantiation of prediction, prevention and treatment of pancreatic fistulae after resection surgery on the pancreas”. Thesis for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, field of knowledge 22 “Health care”, speciality 222 “Medicine” (surgery). Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, defended in 2020. What the thesis is about. A pancreatic fistula is one of the main complications after pancreatic resections: according to leading clinics it occurs in 3–45% of cases, and mortality in its presence is higher than without it (9.3% versus 1.2%). The study aimed to improve prediction, prevention and treatment of this complication. It assessed structural and functional changes in the pancreas after experimental resections, identified factors that significantly affect the rate of fistula formation — in particular the type of resection — refined resection techniques and proposed a surgical technology for treating fistulae. Clinical, laboratory, instrumental, histological and statistical methods were used.
