          A first conversation without traveling to Kyiv

          To find out whether there are grounds to consider surgery, you do not have to travel halfway across the country. The first consultation can take place online, from home.

          The surgeon who operates consults you

          At the appointment you talk to the surgeon who will then operate together with the team. We discuss the surgical plan right away, not through intermediaries.

          I review the images myself

          I look at the CT and MRI images themselves, not just the written report: details that are not in the report often determine whether surgery is possible.

          The decision is made by a tumor board

          Complex cases are discussed at a multidisciplinary tumor board with oncologists, medical oncologists and radiologists — before surgery.

          Direct contact with me

          Calls to my mobile number and messages come to me personally, with no call center. If I did not answer, I am in surgery: I will call back within 24 hours.

          After surgery — at home

          For a year after surgery I review your test results and scans remotely: follow-up tests can be done where you live. It is a separate paid service.

          For now, I consult patients from Ivano-Frankivsk online: I review scans and documents, explain the diagnosis and treatment options, and say which tests are missing and whether there are grounds to consider surgery. If needed, the follow-up consultation is held in person — at 10 Hutsulska St (Dr. Valikhnovskyi Institute of Surgery), by arrangement. I perform operations in Kyiv together with a team of surgical oncologists. The consultation is free.

          What can be done at a consultation

          • review the scans — CT, MRI, PET-CT and reports — the images themselves, not just the descriptions;
          • talk about symptoms, previous treatment and other conditions, and examine you at an in-person visit;
          • explain the diagnosis and treatment options — clearly, answering your questions and those of your family;
          • say which tests are missing — some of them can be done where you live;
          • assess whether there are grounds to consider surgery and, if so, plan the next steps and the trip to Kyiv.

          The final decision on surgery is made by a tumor board after a complete workup. How a consultation works in general is described on the page “Oncologist Consultation”.

          Which diagnoses to come with

          I am a surgical oncologist: I consult on the surgical treatment of tumors of the abdominal and pelvic organs. You can come with the following diagnoses:

          If you have already been offered treatment or told that surgery is impossible, a consultation can serve as a surgeon’s second opinion.

          If surgery is needed

          I perform operations in Kyiv. The path from the first consultation to surgery looks like this:

          1. Online consultationI review your documents and say whether there are grounds to consider surgery and which tests are missing.
          2. Further testsSome tests can be done where you live; I will tell you which ones and where.
          3. Tumor boardYour case is discussed with oncologists, medical oncologists and radiologists, and the treatment plan is defined.
          4. Surgery in KyivThe date and preparation are agreed in advance so that the trip is as short as possible.
          5. Returning homeAfter discharge you recover at home, and follow-up tests are done where you live.

          The length of the hospital stay depends on the operation and the approach: after a laparoscopic procedure it is usually shorter. Recovery follows the enhanced recovery (ERAS) protocol.

          What to bring to the consultation

          • CT, MRI or PET-CT discs — the discs with the images themselves, not just written reports;
          • the histopathology report and, if available, tissue blocks and slides;
          • summaries of previous operations and treatment, including chemotherapy;
          • recent blood tests and tumor markers, if they were measured.

          If some materials are missing, that is no reason to postpone the consultation: I will tell you what else needs to be tested.

          The consultation is the first of six steps

          It can be the start of personal support from a surgical oncologist: from the treatment plan to a year of follow-up after surgery.

          1. Step 1 you are here

            Review of the clinical situation: all examination materials, CT and MRI discs, medical history.

            Discussion of the case by a multidisciplinary team with oncologists, medical oncologists and radiologists.

          3. Step 3

          4. Step 4

            The early postoperative period under the ERAS enhanced recovery protocol.

          5. Step 5

            Deciding on further management and support during the chemotherapy stage.

          6. Step 6

            Advisory support for a year: monitoring test results and reviewing CT and MRI discs.
