Stomach cancer
A malignant tumor arising from the epithelium of the gastric mucosa. Depending on the histological structure, gastric cancer is divided into squamous cell, persnickellular (undifferentiated), glandular (adenocarcinoma).
Symptoms of stomach cancer:
- discomfort and pain in the stomach area
- heartburn
- aversion to protein foods
- loose stools
- bad breath (burping with a rotten-egg smell)
- weight loss
- increased gas excretion
- nausea with bouts of vomiting that bring relief only for a short time
- anemia
- constant feeling of an overfull stomach
- rapid satiety despite eating small amounts of food
- signs of cancer intoxication – rapid fatigue and weakness
Risk factors:
The likelihood of developing the disease is influenced by:
- having close relatives with a history of stomach cancer
- consuming large amounts of salty, spicy, smoked foods, animal fats. Low content of vegetables and fruits in the diet.
- consumption of low-quality and expired products
- stomach polyps
- adenomatous polyposis
- ulcer disease
- chronic gastritis
- duodeno-gastric refluxс
- elevated level of Helicobacter Pilory
- intestinal metaplasia – precancerous changes of the gastric mucosa, when the gastric epithelium is replaced by intestinal epithelium
- age over 60 years, especially in men
- 5-10 years after gastric surgery
